Androgenetic Alopecia

Are you noticing gradual hair thinning or a receding hairline? You may be experiencing Androgenetic Alopecia, the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. At Golla Center for Plastic Surgery & Spa, we offer advanced, personalized treatments to slow hair loss and restore your natural hair growth.

What is alopecia?

Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss. There are many different types of alopecia, each with a unique underlying cause. Only board-certified dermatology providers can diagnose the exact cause of your alopecia. At the Golla Center, our expert providers will take a thorough history of your hair loss and perform a physical examination to determine the exact cause of your hair loss. This expertise is what sets the Golla Center apart from other hair restoration clinics.

There are three types of alopecia and they are Androgenetic alopecia, Telogen Effluvium, Alopecia Areata.

Androgenetic Alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of hair loss.

In men it is called male-pattern balding, and may be first manifested by a receding hairline or loss on the crown of the scalp.  In women it typically shows up as a wider hair part, receding hairline or area of thinning on the top of the head in a circle starting just behind the hairline. The main cause of this is thought to be hormonal and genetic. The main medical treatments are minoxidil, Nutrafol, and finasteride. PRP, an in office procedure, is also tremendously beneficial for this type of hair loss. Often this type of hair loss can be arrested and in some cases reversed by a combination of these treatments.

What Causes Androgenetic Alopecia?

The primary causes of Androgenetic Alopecia include:

  • Genetics: Family history of hair loss increases your risk.
  • Hormonal Imbalance: Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can shrink hair follicles, leading to hair thinning.
  • Age: Hair loss may become more noticeable as you age.

Identifying these factors allows us to tailor effective treatments to slow the progression and encourage hair regrowth.

How We Diagnose Androgenetic Alopecia

At Golla Center, our expert dermatology team follows a comprehensive diagnostic approach:
