The Miracle Injectable – Kybella

By | Blog, Fillers and Injectables | No Comments

It happens to all of us sooner or later. Gravity and aging work together and stretch the skin below our chins into perfect pockets for the accumulation of fat cells – the dreaded double chin. Fortunately we now have a treatment that doesn’t involve liposuction or surgery to banish that unwanted second chin.

This miracle treatment is an injectable called Kybella, and it mimics what your body does naturally to rid itself of unwanted fat cells. It’s similar in composition to a chemical called deoxycholic acid, which your body produces to help absorb fats. Once those fat cells are destroyed by the injection, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. This means that you probably won’t need further treatment once you reach your target goal.

A Kybella treatment is quick, too. Your specialist will administer several small injections into the area. The exact number will depend upon your individual needs, but generally the treatment only requires 15 to 20 minutes to complete. You may need additional treatments to reach your desired profile, and each one is scheduled at least one month apart.

You’ll be asked about your medical background prior to treatment, and you should be sure to note if you’ve had or are planning to have any face, neck or chin surgery or cosmetic treatments in these areas. Be sure to mention also any medications you’re taking, especially blood thinners.

The reviews from patients receiving Kybella treatments are overwhelmingly positive. They report dramatic results with little down time and virtually no hassle. And as a non-animal, non-human formula, it’s available to just about everyone.

Kybella treatments are available from the Golla Center for Plastic Surgery & Spa, and with nine locations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia – three of them in the Pittsburgh area alone – you’re never far away. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff and state-of-the-art technology are ready to help you meet all of your beauty goals. How can Xeomin improve moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows?

By | Blog, Fillers and Injectables | No Comments

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin is medically referred to as incobotulinumtoxinA. It’s a relatively new cosmetic injection that compares to Botox, Juvederm, and Dysport in that it serves to temporarily correct fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It is made from bacteria that causes botulism, a common form of injection that serves to harness the “toxic” power in order to freeze muscle activity for a temporary period of time. The botulinum toxin actually blocks nerve activity in the muscles between and surrounding the eyebrows, causing temporary reduction in activity and, thus, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye.

Who Is Xeomin For?

Xeomin is great for people who want cosmetic improvements in fine lines and fine to moderate wrinkles on their face. Typically, Xeomin is used to address and correct frown lines, or the wrinkling that occurs between the eyebrows when a person frowns. Xeomin should not be used alongside any other botulinum products, like Botox or Dysport. Xeomin is not ideal for individuals with severe wrinkling or scarring, and should not be used if the individual has any neurological conditions.

The Benefits of Xeomin

The effects of Xeomin can be seen within just one week, and the results may last up to six months. The costs of Xeomin are comparable to Botox, and is significantly more cost-effective than a major cosmetic surgery like a face lift or deep chemical peel. Xeomin does not contain any additives, it just contains pure botulinum toxin A. . This makes allergic reactions or irritations less probable. Unlike Botox, however, Xeomin does not need to be refrigerated before use, which leads to simpler usage of the product.

Another benefit of Xeomin is that it allows individuals to correct imperfections on their face without having to resort to major medical procedures. It allows the individual to retain their natural beauty and still look like they have muscle movement, instead of developing the “frozen face” look that is often associated with Botox users. This serves as an important addition to the upkeep that people take part in as they age, but it allows the user to focus on a specific targeted area. Additionally, the convenience of the procedure is a major added benefit. With re-administration necessary just a few times a year, Xeomin serves as a great alternative to expensive creams that claim to stop aging or reduce wrinkling, and it is much cheaper than a major plastic surgery.

How Does Xeomin Work?

Frown lines often form from the repeated expression and contraction of specific muscles. These frown lines can be softened and visibly reduced with the Xeomin injections. Because Xeomin is made from a similar substance as Botox, it is actually a neurotoxin which blocks the release of the chemicals that cause the frown line muscles to contract. Xeomin is injected into a targeted area by a medical professional, and treatments are typically spaced about three months apart.

Fillers and Injectables

By | Blog, Fillers and Injectables | No Comments

Fillers and Injectables are used to provide fullness to face and features like lips, treat wrinkles and fill shallow contours. They are also called liquid facelifts because they provide similar results like that of the surgical facelift and they do not have of the downsides of a surgery. They can be used at a cost lower than surgery. This procedure does not help with excess skin sagging. Mild loosening of the skin can be treated very efficiently with fillers and injectables. This kind of a treatment is not permanent and requires repetition of sessions. Other skin treatment techniques like injection of botulinum toxin can also be used along with fillers.

Procedure for Fillers and Injectables

Following are the stepwise details of the procedure:

  • Our cosmetic surgeons in Pittsburgh will first consult over the results a patient wants and then evaluated the face and skin tone. The surgeon makes the decision of which areas need to be injected with dermal fillers based on the results that the patient wants.
  • The surgeon then makes appropriate marks on the areas to be treated and specifically points where dermal fillers are to be used.
  • The site for filling is then cleaned up with an antiseptic medicine. Some anesthetic may be used to provide some numbness to those areas. Sometime the fillers would have some anesthetic substance in the injectable liquid.
  • Fillers are then injected at the marked points
  • After injections are administered the marks are wiped away and ice may be applied to reduce any discomfort. The area filled with injectables should not be pressed much as the fillers might move.

Scars and creases may take more than one injection to be treated. Sometimes injection needs to be administered deep in the skin, which maybe painful. In order to reduce such a discomfort, the surgeon may use local anesthesia.

Recovery Process

This process being minimally invasive doesn’t require too much of recovery time. Normal activities can be resumed right after the process is done. Care should be taken not to apply makeup or apply any pressure on the filled areas, as there is a risk of the movement of the filler. There may be some swelling but that does not last long. This process is not permanent so a re-treatment is usually required. The frequency of repeat treatment varies from patient to patient. An allergy test should be done before administering the fillers through injections. There could be a possibility of acne, bleeding, skin rashes, bruising, itching etc. if an allergy test is not performed and the patient happens to be allergic to the filler.

Patient Profile

If a patient wants to undergo a facelift without having to undergo a surgery then fillers and injectables are the best choice. However, these do not provide a long-term solution. The treatments need to be repeated once the effects of the fillers start fading out. Also, if someone wants to get a facelift done on a trail basis they can go for this procedure. It will give them a preview of what surgery would do permanently.

Side Effects and Risks

There could be certain general side effects like swelling and little amount of pain after the injections are administered but these disappear within few hours of the treatment. An allergy test towards the fillers and injectables needs to happen. If a person is allergic then there could be complications like bleeding, burning, acne, rashes, itching etc. Hence, it is important to do a sensitivity test before going for the procedure.
