How Does Face Lift Cosmetic Surgery Aid In Aging

By | Blog, Face Lift | No Comments

If you find that stress, the natural aging process, or hereditary factors have left the skin on your face sagging, lackluster, and wrinkling, a facelift may be right for you. A face lift can bring your skin back up to its youthful stature, and can promote a rejuvenated complexion that lasts up to ten years. A face lift is common for people who have minor to moderate effects of aging, like sagging, creasing, or jowls. Jowls are the droopy appearance of fat deposits in the cheeks and lower jaw.

What is Facelift?

A face lift is also medically known as a rhytidectomy, and it aids the signs of aging that often appear in the face and neck. During a face lift, a plastic surgeon removes excess skin from focused areas on the face, including the neck and cheeks. The cosmetic surgeon then lifts the skin (hence, the name “face lift”) and tightens the skin over the face. This results in a more youthful appearance and tightened skin.

Who is Facelift for?

If you experience any of the following skin conditions, due to aging or other circumstances, a face lift may be a viable option for you. Face lifts result in a more youthful, toned appearance in the skin of the face. It appears to reverse the effects of aging, and provides overall rejuvenation.

Conditions that may be corrected by a face lift include: significant weight loss that results in loss of skin tone or skin volume; loose skin; excess fat deposits near the jaw or chin which may give the appearance of a double chin; deep creasing; sagging skin.

Face lifts may be combined with brow lifts or eyelid surgery to further enhance the rejuvenation of the skin on the face and result in more youthful appearance.

Face lifts, while extremely helpful for creating a rejuvenated face and reversing some of the effects of aging, does not actually stop the aging process. Hint: nothing does! Though there are a number of creams and serums that boast their anti-aging qualities and claim to help reverse the effects of aging, the face lift is a surgical procedure, and there is no non-surgical alternative. The creams, serums, and other dermatological products may delay the time when a face lift becomes an appropriate option, and they help to enhance the results of the face lift by promoting a healthy and youthful appearance.

What are the benefits of Facelift cosmetic surgery?

A huge benefit of the face lift procedure is that the results can last for up to ten years. This is a huge benefit when you consider the cost of the procedure, and the cost of many expensive cosmetic products that claim to have anti-aging capabilities but really don’t change anything. Another added benefit of a face lift is the boost in self-confidence and self-esteem that results from a more toned and youthful appearance. Wrinkles are immediately lessened or disappear completely as a result of the face lift procedure.

Injections are not necessarily a substitute for surgery.  The goals that can be achieved with volume replacement are very different from those which are achieved surgically.  In many cases patients require both surgery and volume replacement wall in others either one procedure and the other would be best.

The liquid facelift is a form of non-surgical facelift, reducing the signs of ageing without any invasive surgical procedures. Treatments are administered to the face via injection, and can be used to fight wrinkles, lines and sagging facial skin to give a dramatic result.

The loss of facial volume and elasticity also leads to the formation of wrinkles, lines and folds. What is the face lift procedure like?

There are three different types of face lifts you can choose to undergo, depending on what your goals are for the procedure. Your options include a traditional face lift, a limited incision face lift, or a neck lift.

For all three procedures, you will first be administered either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, depending on which is right for you. Each of the three types of face lift procedures call for their own incision line placements and lengths.

With a traditional face lift, the incision line begins at the temple, goes around the front of the ear, and concludes at the base of the scalp. This type of face lift targets all areas in the face and neck region, and the plastic surgeon may even lift the underlying musculature in order to promote a more alert, youthful appearance. Excess skin is removed, and fat is redistributed in a more attractive manner.

For a limited incision face lift, as the name suggests, the incision lines are much shorter. They are still placed in the same areas as the traditional face lift, depending on your desired results, but are not continuous as in the traditional face lift. Incisions may also be placed in the lower eye lid or under the upper lip, and will be hidden when possible.

A neck lift targets the chin and neck areas only. The incision site begins in the front of the lower ear, wraps around, and ends at the base of the scalp. Additional incisions may also be made under the chin. This procedure is right for you if you desire changes in your chin and neck. It specifically targets loose or sagging skin as well as the accumulation of excess or uneven fat in these areas.

Once the appropriate changes have been made to your facial features, the incisions will be closed. Because of their placement, once the incisions are healed, they will be well-hidden by your hairline and your natural facial contours.

The changes made during a face lift procedure will become more and more visible as the swelling, redness, and bruising subside. The entire healing process should take a few months to one year, although the majority of visible symptoms – namely, swelling, bruising, and redness – will dissipate within the first few months following your plastic surgery. The incision sites themselves may take up to one year to fully refine, although they will still be hidden within your hairline and contours of your face.

If you are interested in rejuvenating your skin and returning to a younger-looking appearance, speak to your surgeon about whether a face lift is right for you.
